Situated in the heart of Bloor West Village, this project addresses the increasing demand for downtown housing by transforming a Victorian-era home into a multi-generational triplex. With their children now grown, the clients no longer needed a large single-family residence and sought to offer their kids the chance to live affordably downtown in their own apartments.
Through thoughtful planning and the addition of a bold rear addition, the building was reconfigured into three distinct units, each with its own entrance. The first unit spans the ground floor and all levels of the rear addition, providing ample space for living and working spaces, including a painting and sewing studio. The second unit encompasses the original second and third floors, while the third unit is situated in the basement. With flexibility built into the planning, each unit can grow or shrink depending on how each of the generations evolve.
The striking rear addition contrasts with the original built character, celebrating the interplay between past and present, and symbolizing the evolving stories of the families within.
